What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Techniques

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It's sometimes described as acupuncture without the needles. EFT involves gentle tapping with the fingertips on certain points on the face and upper torso, in combination with repeating some simple affirmations. It works on both physical and emotional issues, and can assist you in reducing stress, addressing fears/anxieties, and in releasing pain from difficult memories. Once you learn this simple process, you can do it yourself any time, giving you an excellent coping technique "right at your fingertips." Some women even use EFT to ease the discomfort of contractions in labor!

Meet Eileen

My background

I'm a certified EFT practitioner and ordained minister. For over 25 years, I served expectant, birthing and postpartum families as a doula, childbirth educator, midwifery assistant, & breastfeeding mentor. I discovered EFT during my time as a doula, & began to use it right away with my birthing and postpartum clients. I received my first EFT certification in 2006, and it's been a part of my professional life ever since . Once I retired from attending births, I began working full time with EFT clients. I love teaching EFT, and over the years I've given many classes and certification workshops . I've also been extremely grateful to have and use EFT for myself, and it's helped me through some very difficult times in my life.

My Specialty Areas

I specialize in working with those who have experienced trauma during the childbirth process-- parents usually, but also babies, and sometimes professionals like doulas or midwives too. Birth is a peak experience, and emergencies or unexpected events can take an emotional toll on everyone. In my experience, EFT is extremely useful as a tool to help process trauma, often wonderfully effective while also being very gentle. Used appropriately, it can help you reduce the intensity of difficult memories without  re-experiencing the emotional pain within them.

In addition to birth trauma work, I also focus on utilizing EFT for:

  • Fertility challenges
  • Pregnancy concerns
  • Pregnancy loss
  • Labor & birth
  • The postpartum transition period
  • Breastfeeding concerns
  • Sexual abuse/attack survivors

My EFT practice

I offer sessions by phone, or through Skype or Zoom. This allows me to work with clients across the U.S. and around the world.
